I read a New York Times article where the author stated that she has to "hold her nose" as she flies over the South and Middle America. I'm glad these arrogant jerks are miserable.

I think to say that this person is a spokesperson for the Democratic party is overstating the case. Clearly, it is an individual, or a group of individuals, who voted for the Democrats in this election. But they were speaking as an individual, not on behalf of the party or even necessarily a majority of Dems. For example, you state "you are glad these arrogant jerks are miserable," and you voted Republican. Does that mean all Republicans think that Democrats are arrogant jerks?
Similarly, there are plenty of people in the Republican party who are racist bigots, and I would not consider them to be a "spokesperson" for the Republicans in any sense of the word. You can dislike what that individual said, but don't try to tie it to the party...it just doesn't hold up.
