Despite the media's take, I thought McCain's speech last night was fantastic. It really hit on many of the reasons why I tend to vote Republican. Less government, less government control over education, less spending, more accountability. I like it.

Media Bias

NY Arrogance

By now I'm sure you have heard that there is no small amount of angst over plans by the Homeland Security Secretariat to reduce by some amount the flow of anti-terrorism funds into New York City in favor of some other locations in the country. Now ... bear this in mind: New York City will still get more anti-terrorism funds than any other state or local government entity in the nation. It's just that for those in New York City, it's not enough.

There are people in Europe who think that once they've hopped on a plane, flown across the ocean, and spent three days in New York City, they've seen America. Sadly, there are quite a few people in New York who would agree with them. To them America disappears when you travel more than 30 miles from Times Square.

Charles Schumer .. heard of him? He's New York's senior senator. He is spitting fire over the diversion of some anti-terrorism funds to POTNY ... Places Other Than New York. When he discovered that some of those funds would be channeled to Georgia he had this little gem of a quote:

"Other states that have very little problems got an increase, Georgia got a 40 percent increase. Somehow this administration thinks that Georgia peanut farmers are more at risk than the Empire State Building. Something is dramatically wrong."

So ... there you go. Georgia is all about peanut farmers. Yankee arrogance and stupidity rears its head yet again. So, not that he'll ever hear it, I have a little message for Senator Schumer:

Senator. First of all, the money is allocated to the City of Atlanta, not to the State of Georgia. Last time I checked there were no peanut farmers in Atlanta, though you will find peanuts at Atlanta Braves Baseball games. The Braves, senator. Perhaps you've heard of them. Your Mets have finished the last 14 seasons sniffing the Braves' hind quarters. We also have an airport in Atlanta, Senator Schumer. Perhaps you've heard of Hartsfield International Airport? Do we need to remind you that the terrorist attacks of 9/11 were launched from busy airports? Well, ours is the busiest. Hartsfield is busier than LaGuardia and busier than Kennedy. Prettier too, with friendlier people. In fact, Hartsfield is busier than any other airport anywhere in the world. This ain't peanuts, senator. Airports need to be watched and protected, and the largest in the world could very well need more attention than it's getting right now. Something else, Senator Schumer. You do know that terrorists might use biological weapons, don't you? Ever heard of the CDC? The Centers for Disease Control? The CDC is here in Atlanta. You'll find it right in the middle of a peanut field just two miles east of downtown. Just where do you think much of the important research in bio-terrorism is being handled? That's right, the CDC. I don't know if the CDC does any work on peanut allergies. Perhaps you could have one of your staffers check on that. Get back to us on that one, will you? Oh, and by the way ... we have tall buildings in Atlanta too, senator. And they're not peanut storage facilities. They house the offices of many of the nation's Fortune 500 companies. Some of them are even tall enough to have elevators. I'm not in the apology game, Senator Schumer, so I'm not asking for one from you. I did just want to point out that you did an exemplary job of showing your ass with that statement about Georgia and peanut farmers. Thanks for fortifying the image that so many Americans have of people from New York.

A poll out today says that eight out of ten Americans don't think that President Bush has a clear plan for keeping gas prices down. Well, guess what. It is not the president's, nor the government's role in our economy to keep the gas prices down. That is a function of the marketplace. If you want to see prices go down, decrease the demand so that the supply will increase.

We see here an illustration of a fundamental problem in America .. the believe that it is the government's role to smooth every bump in the road and straighten every tight curve for all Americans.

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia — A 33-year-old man in northern Malaysia has married a 104-year-old woman, saying mutual respect and friendship had turned to love, a news report said Tuesday.

It was Muhamad Noor Che Musa's first marriage and his wife's 21st, according to The Star newspaper which cited a report in the Malay-language Harian Metro tabloid.

Muhamad, an ex-army serviceman said he found peace and a sense of belonging after meeting Wook Kundor, whom he said he initially sympathized with because she was childless, old and alone, the report said.

"I am not after her money, as she is poor," Muhamad reportedly said. "Before meeting Wook, I never stayed in one place for long."

He said he hoped to help his new bride to master Roman script while she taught him Islamic religious knowledge.

The report did not say if any of Wook's previous 20 husbands are still alive.

Malaysian Muslim men are allowed by their religion to take up to four wives at a time, but reports of women who marry more than once are rare. Muslim women do not practice polygamy.

Malaysia's 26 million population comprises about 60 percent Muslims, almost all ethnic Malays. Large ethnic Chinese and Indian minorities are Buddhists, Hindus or Christians.

I am just finishing "The West's Last Chance" by Tony Blankley. The book is incredible. If you want an interesting, thought provoking and terrifying book about the US/European dilema posed by radical Islam, read this book. I have been a fan of Tony Blankley for some time and now I am a HUGE fan. This is a must read for anyone that cares about the United States.

Islamic Thinkers Society

I came across this article discussing the activities of the "Islamic Thinkers Society" and was disturbed. I was even more disturbed after viewing their website. This New York based organization is fiercely anti-Western and anti-American. Their site contains links to videos mocking US soldiers in Iraq. At a rally in New York, they had this to say: "The mushroom cloud is on its way! The real holocaust is on its way!"

These statements constitute a terrorist threat against the US. If these people are visitors to our country, they should be thrown out. If they are citizens, they need to be monitored very closely. I have no doubt that this group has ties to organizations that want to hurt and kill Americans. I hope the people of New York make it clear that their presence is not welcome in our country.

Why in God's name do the good people of Georgia continue to elect Cynthia McKinney to Congress? This woman is dispicable and incompetent, yet she wins elections. She has made numerous anti-semetic remarks, and holds a general contempt for whites, yet morons continue to vote for her.

Now she has hauled off and hit a police officer who stopped her to ask her to indentify herself while she was entering the capitol. She had a new hairstyle and was not wearing her Congressional pin and the officer didn't recognize her. Now, of course, she is playing the race card. Poor Cynthia. America has held her down and quelled her dreams to such a great extent that all she has been able to achieve in life is being elected to Congress. Must be a tough life.

Statement of Cynthia McKinney Re: Repeated Harassment from Capitol Hill Police

I have served as a Member of Congress for more than 11 years.

Throughout my tenure in Congress, I seem to evoke memory loss, especially from certain police officers who claim not to be able to recognize my face while I go to work everyday, representing the people of Georgia's 4th Congressional District.

Washington, DC and local newspapers, as well as authors of books, have carried my "working while black" stories of such encounters on Capitol Hill. In fact, the movie American Blackout candidly captures just such an encounter in one of its more humorous moments when after a two-year hiatus from Congress, a black police officer recognizes me and welcomes me back to Washington, and then just across the street, a few yards away, a white police officer approaches me to ask me what office I am with. In the film I remark, "Some things never change. That's what Tupac said."

Sadly, there are only 14 black women Members of Congress. And surely our faces are distinguishable. But why my face is continually unrecognizable can only be answered by these offending police officers. Capitol Hill Police are given face recognition instructions as a part of their official training. Capitol Hill Police are required to recognize, greet, and distinguish Members of Congress as a part of their official role and responsibilities. In fact, according to the US Capitol Police, their mission is to protect and support the Congress in meeting its Constitutional responsibilities. The US Capitol Police mission statement makes no distinction about selective application of its mission depending upon whether a Member of Congress is black, woman, or has a new hairstyle.

But, honestly, this incident is not about wearing a Congressional pin or changing my hairstyle.

It is true that I have changed my hairstyle. It is true that at the time I was not wearing my pin. But many Members of Congress aren't wearing their pins today. Just in the last hour at least 8 Members of Congress have been spotted speaking from the well of the House without their pins and even more have been seen on the Hill today not wearing their Congressional pin. How many of them were stopped by Capitol Hill Police? Do I have to contact the police every time I change my hairstyle? How do we account for the fact that when I wore my braids every day for 11 years, I still faced this problem, primarily from certain white police officers.

This morning at approximately 8:57 am, I was going to a Budget Committee meeting due to start at 9:00 am. I was rushing to my meeting when a white police officer yelled to me. He approached me, bodyblocked me, physically touching me. I used my arm to get him off of me. I told him not to touch me several times. He asked for my ID and I showed it to him. He then let me go and I proceeded to my meeting and I assume that the Police Officer resumed his duties. I have counseled with the Sergeant-at-Arms and Acting Assistant Chief Thompson several times before and counseled with them again on today's incident. I offered also to counsel with the offending police officer. I have agreed to try to remember to wear my pin and to notify Capitol Hill police every time I change my hairstyle.

My father was a police officer. After the tragedies on September 11th, recognizing the strain that we all were under, I wrote a letter to Sergeant-at-Arms Livingood reminding him that police officers were operating under great stress while working long hours. I asked that they be allowed to use their cell phones to contact their families to know that they were alright. No one else did this. But I did. I will not let this or any other incident dampen my resolve to support those whose work is vital and supports us. It is, however, a shame that while I conduct the country's business, I have to stop and call the police to tell them that I've changed my hairstyle so that I'm not harassed at work.

This is a heartwarming story:

BLOEMFONTEIN, South Africa — A suspected mugger being chased by security guards met a grisly end after he fled into a zoo and climbed into the tiger enclosure.

His mauled body was discovered Sunday by a visitor to the zoo in this central Southern African city, prompting initial confusion as to how the man ended up in the enclosure.

Police said Wednesday the man and an accomplice had robbed a couple at knifepoint early Sunday. Security guards gave chase and one of the suspects jumped over the perimeter fence. He then apparently ran to the tiger's den in the middle of the zoo.

"What exactly happened we don't know and we won't ever know because the only person who could tell us is dead," police spokeswoman Else Gerber said.

She said there was an empty can of beer near the corpse and that the autopsy would reveal whether the man was intoxicated at the time.

Zoo officials have said the Bengal tigers will not be destroyed because they were blameless. The tigers had been fed on Saturday and so did not eat the man because they were not hungry, according to media reports.

Mexico Wall

This article illustrates why we have a problem with illegal immigration, and how illegals view the US. Mexicans believe it is their right to enter the US in a manner that completely ignores US laws as the below article illustrates.

Some of the quotes by Mexican workers in regards to proposed legislation that attempts to limit illegals are down right scary. One stated: "It isn't just a feeling of rejection. It's against what we see as part of our life, our culture, our territory." OUR TERRITORY! The foreign nationals believe they are entitled to enter the US at will, break our laws, and use our social services. Another said that the new legislation "could stem migration." That's exactly the point, dumbass!

Mexicans need to look no further than their own government for the source of their economic woes. It has been mired in corruption for decades and has failed to grow Mexico's pitiful economy to the point where now the number one source of Mexico's GDP is from Mexicans working in the US sending money back to Mexico (which, incidentally, directly takes money out of our economy, hurting our prosperity). The US may very well need some degree of foreign labor to keep our economic engine running smoothly. It is the sense of entitlement and lack of respect for the US legal system that really angers me in this article.

Howard Dean now says that the US can't win in Iraq. Often, when the right says that politicians who disagree with the war are hurting moral, I disagree. In this case, I can't agree more. The Chairman of the Democratic Party is telling our troops and the American people that the cause is lost. That is absolutely disgraceful! Any party that would allow itself to be led by such a fool is not a party that I can ever be associated with. This is also the kind of talk that will turn off most of the American people to the Democrats yet again.

There is overwhelming evidence to suggest that we are WINNING in Iraq. Two votes have been held. A constitution has been ratified. More Iraqi troops are able to stand on their own each day. Yes, 2,000 US soldiers have died. If you compare that to any other war in the history of the US, however, that is a miniscule number. Dean is rooting against US victory because it would signal a victory for Bush. Disgusting.

And another thing, if we pull out now, as some Democrats are suggesting, who will take responsibility for the death and destruction that would follow? It certainly wouldn't be Howard Dean. As his own ideas led to the deaths of perhaps millions, Dean would again try to blame Bush. The Dems proclaim they are the party that cares about people. Why do they fail to care about all of the Iraqis that will perish if their plans are followed?

(SAN ANTONIO) -- Saying the "idea that we're going to win the war in Iraq is an idea which is just plain wrong," Democratic National Chairman Howard Dean predicted today that the Democratic Party will come together on a proposal to withdraw National Guard and Reserve troops immediately, and all US forces within two years.

Dean made his comments in an interview on WOAI Radio in San Antonio.

"I've seen this before in my life. This is the same situation we had in Vietnam. Everybody then kept saying, 'just another year, just stay the course, we'll have a victory.' Well, we didn't have a victory, and this policy cost the lives of an additional 25,000 troops because we were too stubborn to recognize what was happening."

Dean says the Democrat position on the war is 'coalescing,' and is likely to include several proposals.

"I think we need a strategic redeployment over a period of two years," Dean said. "Bring the 80,000 National Guard and Reserve troops home immediately. They don't belong in a conflict like this anyway. We ought to have a redeployment to Afghanistan of 20,000 troops, we don't have enough troops to do the job there and its a place where we are welcome. And we need a force in the Middle East, not in Iraq but in a friendly neighboring country to fight (terrorist leader Musab) Zarqawi, who came to Iraq after this invasion. We've got to get the target off the backs of American troops.

Dean didn't specify which country the US forces would deploy to, but he said he would like to see the entire process completed within two years. He said the Democrat proposal is not a 'withdrawal,' but rather a 'strategic redeployment' of U.S. forces.

"The White House wants us to have a permanent commitment to Iraq. This is an Iraqi problem. President Bush got rid of Saddam Hussein and that was a great thing, but that could have been done in a very different way. But now that we're there we need to figure out how to leave. 80% of Iraqis want us to leave, and it's their country."

Dean also compared the controversy over pre-war intelligence to the Watergate scandal which brought down Richard Nixon's presidency in 1974.

"What we see today is very much like what was going in Watergate," Dean said. "It turns out there is a lot of good evidence that President Bush did not tell the truth when he was asking Congress for the power to go to war. The President said last week that Congress saw the same intelligence that he did in making the decision to go to war, and that is flat out wrong. The President withheld some intelligence from the Senate Intelligence Committee. He withheld the report from the CIA that in fact there was no evidence of weapons of mass destruction (in Iraq), that they did not have a nuclear program. They (the White House) selectively gave intelligence to the United States Senate and the United States Congress and got them to give the go ahead to attack these people."

Jail Bird

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- A man got a prison term longer than prosecutors and defense attorneys had agreed to -- all because of Larry Bird.

The lawyers reached a plea agreement Tuesday for a 30-year term for a man accused of shooting with an intent to kill and robbery. But Eric James Torpy wanted his prison term to match Bird's jersey number 33.

``He said if he was going to go down, he was going to go down in Larry Bird's jersey,'' Oklahoma County District Judge Ray Elliott said Wednesday. ``We accommodated his request and he was just as happy as he could be.

``I've never seen anything like this in 26 years in the courthouse. But, I know the DA is happy about it.''

Affirmative Action Gone Haywire

The Institute for Diversity and Ethics in Sports, whatever that is, released a study examining "the front office, support staff, playing and coaching opportunities for women and minorities in professional football, basketball, baseball and soccer, along with colleges." Not suprisingly, the WNBA won. They hire a lot of WOMEN because they are a WOMEN'S basketball league. Many of the coaches and staff are former WOMEN'S BASKETBALL PLAYERS, just as many NFL coaches are both male and former football players at some level.

Not every job can be done equally by men and women, and this is such a case. A man who has played NFL or college football is inherently better equiped to understand the game and the players. Additionally, football is a very testoterone driven sport. The players would not respond well to a female coach, in my opinion. Read more about this story here.

Millions Less

Here is a great article by Steve Malzberg from Newsmax. I had the misfortune of watching some to the "Millions More Movement" myself. It was a total disgrace. No constructive answers were offered or debated. It was all about race-baiting and hate speech. We should be passed this by now. The elected officials that attended this event should be challenged on whether or not they believe the racist garbage spewed by many speakers.

They billed it as the "Millions More Movement." I guess when you are celebrating the ten-year anniversary of an event dubbed "The Million Man March," an event that never really drew a million people, then you can call last Saturday's celebration "Millions More," even though it drew less of a crowd than the event that never hit one million ten years ago. Are you with me so far?

For hour after hour, speaker after speaker took to the podium at the Mall in Washington, D.C., to speak to a very faithful, peaceful and overwhelmingly African-American audience. This gathering, called by Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan, was supposed to be a lot more inclusive than the event in 1995.

For one thing, women were encouraged to attend this time around. And although one gay group has complained that it was not allowed to speak as planned, a guy representing the Black Man's Exchange did speak. He referred to himself as a "same-gender loving black man." That's inclusive, I must say.

There were congressmen from Maryland, Michigan, North Carolina, Texas and Illinois. All are members of the Congressional Black Caucus, of course. Former D.C. mayor Marion Barry and Former New Orleans chief executive Marc Morial were there, as was the current mayor of Detroit, Kuame Kilpatrick.

Most major African-American groups were represented, as were most black religious groups. Tavis Smiley was there and so was Jesse Jackson. They both spoke, although I must say that the good reverend did not have one of the "prime-time" slots and seemed to be reading his piece from a sheet of paper. It was quite unusual, but still nice and inclusive.

Unfortunately, Farrakhan's idea of inclusive also includes the following folks:

Michael Muhammad, who happens to be the National Youth Minister for the Nation of Islam, wanted to stress a need to stop the violence as it now exists. Or maybe change the direction of the violence. I'll report, you decide.

The Minister said: "We want to send out a message to our young brothers and sisters to stop the killing. We want to say to our young brothers of the Crips and Bloods that we are one family. The real enemy doesn't wear red nor necessarily blue but white, even when he's butt naked."

That's beautiful, isn't it? And speaking of the "youth," Ayende Baptiste was identified as a youth speaker from the '95 party. Well, little Ayende has obviously grown up. Just look at what he had to say:

"It's the role of the elders to give council and the role of the young to make war. We are at war here in America and across the world. We need nation soldiers to come out of the armed forces and into ours. We need soldiers now. We need new black male soldiers, we need black feminist soldiers, we need Crips and Bloods soldiers ... soldiers in the prisons, in the streets."

Well, hasn't he grown into a fine young man – and so inclusive!

Malik Shabazz, the head of the New Black Panther Party and an organizer of the event, also spoke. He started by naming a bunch of prisoners that he wanted to see freed. "Free Mumia. Is Mumia Abu Jamal the real criminal or is the real criminal the president of the United States? ... On the charge of drowning our people in New Orleans and sabotaging the levees, how do you find George Bush? How do you find him on racism, on terrorism? Impeach George Bush."

And then Shabazz got more inclusive himself. "The real gangsters are in the White House, in the Pentagon, in CIA headquarters. How do you have a war on terrorists and Mr. Bush ain't been arrested?

Al Sharpton continued the Bush-bashing fest, saying that it is wickedness that made the president send us to war in Iraq. He called broken levees weapons of mass destruction and claimed, "All you had to do was look in New Orleans and stop bringing down and cutting the budget that brought the weapons of mass destruction down on our people."

Princeton Professor Cornel West pointed to the Capitol building behind him and said that "legalized bribery and normalized corruption is what goes on in there."

Nation of Islam Southwest Regional Minister Robert Muhammad claimed that the rescue helicopters in New Orleans passed over black people on rooftops to save white people.

Chokwe Lumumba of the New Afrikan People's Organization claimed that "our slave masters" controlled all the rescue equipment.

Singer Wyclef Jean performed a little ditty that went something like this: "Please stand up if you're not scared of George Bush. ... If I were president I'd be elected on Friday, assassinated on Saturday, buried on Sunday and they'd go back to work on Monday."

The message here is that this scenario would play out because he's a black man.

Some woman named Viola Plummer was part of the inclusiveness of Farrakhan. She's the National Chairman of the Millions (there's that number again) for Reparations campaign. Nice lady. "We must force the lying, bloodsucking administration of this country to lift the sanctions against Zimbabwe."

She then praised the ruthless, murderous thug-dictator Robert Mugabee for taking farms from white farmers. I guess she's pleased that it's resulted in mass starvation of the people of Zimbabwe.

There was also plenty of praise for Fidel Castro, some of it from Ricardo Alacorn of the Cuban National Assembly, who addressed the crowd on tape.

Let me not forget the fundraising that went on from the stage. The much fewer than one million black men and women who had come to be inspired to better themselves were hit up for outright donations and urged to buy T-shirts, caps and even "the official" bottled water of the event.

Farrakhan's inclusiveness extended to one of the MCs of the event. Economist Julianne Malveaux was there from start to finish making introductions. She of course once reportedly said that she hoped Clarence Thomas' wife would feed him lots of bacon and eggs and fatty food, so he'd get sick.

And a mere ten hours or so after it all began it was time for the man who had to have put his stamp of approval on every one of the speakers who preceded him. The man, the myth, the minister who I consider to be a legendary anti-Semitic bigot, Louis Farrakhan finally addressed the crowd.

He talked about starting a new political party, POP, the Party of the People, or of the poor. He wants to link U.S. blacks and other minorities to what he calls the United States of Africa and Central and South America. He said he wants to see a class action suit against the Department of Homeland Security for criminal negligence during Katrina. He said that he firmly believes that if those in need of rescue in New Orleans had had blond hair and blue eyes, they would have gotten better service.

Farrakhan trashed President Bush and the Catholic Church and praised Castro and even Mao. He solicited money from the faithful too, asking that they each give a dollar per week to something called the Millions More Movement relief fund. I'm sure it's legit – Malik Shabazz is one of those on the oversight committee!

In a typically bizarre lesson from Farrakhan involving numerology, he told us that "Katrina grew to a number twelve tropical storm and then grew into a category one hurricane." I am no meteorologist, but as far as I can tell, there is no such thing as a category twelve tropical storm. A tropical depression has winds up to 38 miles per hour. When the winds reach 39 miles per hour, it becomes classified as a tropical storm. Seventy-four miles per hour and it's a category one hurricane.

Those who expected more of the bigotry and anti-Semitism that have marked so many of Louis Farrakhan's earlier appearances were left disappointed. No "white devil" reference or gutter religion remarks. Not this time. Farrakhan is older and wiser. He now lets his inclusive list of speakers do most of his dirty work in a more subtle manner than we used to get from Farrakhan.

But make no mistake: One minus one is zero, one plus one is two, and one times one divided by one is one. By my math, that means Farrakhan hasn't really changed.

Bush's Poll Numbers

Unprecedented? Hardly. Let's look at the lowest approval rating of previous presidents:

We won't go into depth here, but you need to know that the machinery is in motion to turn the operational control of the Internet over to the United Nations. Here's a link for you to read the story.

Where can this go? Let's consider for just a moment that document that Bill Clinton called the greatest document ever written by man in support of human rights and freedom. That would the the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights. This document is supposed to be the great international blueprint for human rights around the world. The document says that it represents "a common standard of achievement for all peoples and all nations." Does the UN Declaration of Human Rights protect free speech? Freedom of the press? Well ... in a word, yes it does. Article 19 says that everyone has a right to freedom of opinion and expression. So far so good. The declaration also says that everyone has a right to rest and leisure and a right to a standard of living. Interesting. It also says that all mothers and children are entitled to "special care and assistance."

Problematic, to say the least. But, let's cut to the chase. Let's go to Article 29 Paragraph 3. "These rights and freedoms may in no case be exercised contrary to the purposes and principles of the United Nations."

Do you need to read that again? Please do. It's critical. This one clause negates every single right recognized in this so-called "Universal Declaration of Human Rights." You have no freedom of speech. You have no freedom of expression. You have no right to own property. You have no right to your precious standard of living ... you have nothing ... not one thing if your exercise of those rights interfere with the goals of the United Nations.

Now ... back to the Internet. When the United Nations gains control just how far will it go? Will it start censoring the Internet to make sure that nobody posts any information or opinions that might interfere with the "purposes and principles of the United Nations?There is talk, for instance, of a world-wide income tax on the wealthy to fund UN operations. Would anyone be allowed to post an opinion in opposition to this scheme?

Are you worried? You should be. But then maybe you're more concerned about this evening's top story on Entertainment Tonight.

UN Trying to Pry Internet Away From US Control

As some of you may know, various countries are putting pressure on the US to relinquish control of the internet. The UN believes it should control the internet, not the US. This notion is patently ridiculous. The United States government, along with several publicly funded universities, like UCLA, invented the internet. It is a creation of the United States and the world should thank us for it. Why on earth should we have to give up control of something our government invented? This is a big deal, folks. Do we really want countries like China, Cuba and Iran to have a say-so over how the net is governed? Many countries in the world greatly restrict the data that enters their borders. We paid to create the net and we sure as hell should keep a hold of it.

And when Streisand was 8 years old, a Cat 5 hurricane -- named "Dog" -- packing 185 mph churned-away in the Atlantic.

When she was 9, a Cat 5 storm named "Easy" ripped the seas with 160 mph sustained winds.

Streisand was 13 years old when "Janet" hit Mexico with 150 mph winds.

Streisand was celebrating her sweet sixteen as "Cleo" formed with 140 mph.

At 18, Streisand read news about "Donna" AND "Ethel" -- both storms carried 140 mph winds and formed 9 days apart in 1960!

One year later, when Streisand was 19, it happened again: Two Category 5 storms scared the world: "Carla" and "Hattie!"

"Carla" maxed out at 175 mph winds the year Streisand made her television debut on "The Jack Paar Show."

And who could forget Hurricane "Camille" -- which smashed into the United States with 190 mph, just as "Funny Girl" garners eight Academy Award nominations, including one for Best Picture and one for Barbra as Best Actress.

Up next on the weather warning watch, Streisand says to ABC: "There could be more droughts, dust bowls. You know, it's amazing to hear these facts."

A Brief Thought

As I was listening to Arianna Huffington on "Left, Right and Center" (a great radio show, by the way), I was struck by the dichotomy that is the liberal position on Iraq. Huffington wants immediate withdrawl from Iraq. She also continually preaches about helping poor people at home and abroad. Whether or not you agree with going to war initially, pulling out now would lead to a massive Iraqi Civil War. Hundreds of thousands, if not millions, would die in the chaos. The left is willing to sacrifice these people, and sacrifice Iraq's chance at building a stable democracy, because of 2,000 American deaths. Forget for a moment that 2,000 deaths in a large-scale war of this nature is ridiculously low by any historical measurement (in fact, it's completely unprecidented). How can the left, the people that are supposed to care about the poor and unfortunate of the earth, so easily abandon people clearly in need? Their position is completely heartless and would lead to needless death and suffering.

Nagin Fails to Use Amtrak Trains

Officials at Amtrak say they offered to run a special train out of New Orleans that could have evacuated hundreds of residents hours before Hurricane Katrina struck - but city officials turned the offer down.

"We offered the city the opportunity to take evacuees out of harm's way," Amtrak spokesman Cliff Black told the Washington Post on Sunday. "The city declined."

The train had room for "several hundred passengers," the Post said. But it left loaded only with railroad equipment - destined for higher and drier ground.

New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin said Sunday he had no idea what Black was talking about.

I don't know where that's coming from," he told NBC's "Meet the Press." "Amtrak never contacted me to make that offer. As a matter of fact, we checked the Amtrak lines for availability, and every available train was booked, as far as the report that I got, through September. So I'd like to see that report."

Nagin also offered a new explanation as to why he didn't press hundreds of city buses into service to aid in evacuation efforts.

"Sure, here was lots of buses out there," he told "Meet the Press." "But guess what? You can't find drivers that would stay behind with a Category 5 hurricane, you know, pending down on New Orleans. We barely got enough drivers to move people on Sunday, or Saturday and Sunday, to move them to the Superdome."

The New Orleans Democrat had a different excuse tens days ago, when asked about using his city's bus fleet.

"One of the briefings we had they were talking about getting, you know, public school bus drivers to come down here and bus people out of here," he told WWL Radio.

"I'm like - you've got to be kidding me. This is a natural disaster. Get every doggone Greyhound bus line in the country and get their asses moving to New Orleans."

Asked about the buses two days before his "Meet the Press" interview, Nagin told NBC's "Dateline": "I dont know. That is question for somebody else."

Flood Money Squandered

Now here's something you probably didn't know about Louisiana and Hurricane Katrina. At the very time Katrina was bearing down on New Orleans, there were several top-level officials in the very department of Louisiana government that prepares for emergencies such as Katrina sitting around and waiting for their trial. Trial, you say? Trial for what? Let's try corruption and throw in a bit of fraud.

It seems that these Louisiana officials either misspent or misplaced or ... worse ... about 60 million federal taxpayer bucks. Here are some details ...

In March of this year -- that's about five months before Katrina -- FEMA was asking for the return of $30.4 million that the federal government had sent to Louisiana for emergency planning and preparedness. Most of this money was sent to some state office called the Louisiana Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness. Wait .. it gets worse. According to the Los Angeles Times, much of that money was sent to Louisiana under some federal program called the Hazard Mitigation Grant program. That is a program that is, in part, supposed to help states improve flood control facilities. Flood? Did someone say flood?

Hazard mitigation would have been a great idea in New Orleans, don't you think? Especially that "improve flood control facilities" part, but nobody seems to know where the money went! OK ... let's follow the trail of $15.4 million dollars that was spent by the Louisiana Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness. The $15.4 million was part of a $40.5 million grant of your money that was sent to Louisiana for the Hazard Mitigation Program. You know ... flood control and all that. Oops! Hold on a second here. My bad. It seems we can't follow that $15.4 million.. You see, the Louisiana officials say that they awarded that money to subcontractors for 19 major hazard mitigation programs, but they just can't seem to find any receipts to account of 97% of the funds. Ninety-seven percent of $15.4 million, my friends. No receipts. That's $14.94 million .. gone, and nobody can trace it.

Do any of you think that something good might have been done with some of this money? Lives saved? Flooding prevented? If you're thinking that, remember ... we're talking Hurricane Katrina here, and we all know that every bad thing that happened in Hurricane Katrina was --- all together now ---- Bush's Fault!

Perhaps if these Louisiana officials ever actually go to trial now they will be able to use the "Blame Bush" defense.

Clinton Shifts Position

Contradicting his previous statements on the Iraq war, ex-President Bill Clinton said Sunday that there was no basis to attack the rogue nation when President Bush began the Iraq war two years ago.

"The administration . . . decided to launch this invasion virtually alone and before the U.N. inspections were completed - with no real urgency, no evidence that there was any weapons of mass destruction there," he complained to ABC's "This Week."

"I did not favor what was done," Clinton said.

"I thought that diverted our attention from [Afghanistan] and al Qaida and undermined the support that we might have had," he said. "But what's done is done."

Clinton's comments represented a marked shift from the position he took as president.

"We have to defend our future from these predators of the 21st century," he warned in a Feb. 1998 speech.

"And they will be all the more lethal if we allow them to build arsenals of nuclear, chemical and biological weapons and the missiles to deliver them. . . . There is no more clear example of this threat than Saddam Hussein's Iraq. His regime threatens the safety of his people, the stability of his region and the security of all the rest of us."

But the ex-president suggested Sunday that deposing Saddam by military force had been a mistake.

Asked if he thought the U.S. had a strategy for victory in Iraq, Clinton told "This Week": "Well, if we do it's not working right now."

If he were president, Clinton said he'd make stabilizing Afghanistan a bigger priority than securing Iraq.

"The only thing I would sacrifice [Iraq] to is if I felt we were going to lose in Afghanistan. We cannot lose in Afghanistan. We cannot let the Taliban come back. We cannot let Karzai fail. We cannot relax our efforts to try to keep undermining the al Qaida because that's still, by far, a bigger threat to our security."

The BBC talks about the 500 tons of uranium and 1.8 tons of yellow cake:

The United Nations nuclear watchdog has accounted for most of the uranium feared stolen from Iraq's largest nuclear site, Tuwaitha, reports say...About 1.8 metric tons of "yellow cake" and 500 tons of unrefined uranium went missing as the Iraqis left Tuwaitha unattended during the war.

More info on the implications of this stockpile from News Max:

David Kay, the former chief U.S. weapons inspector who was hailed by the press last year for pronouncing Iraq WMD-free, shared some interesting observations with Congress this past January about goings-on at al Tuwaitha in 2000 and 2001.

"[The Iraqis] started building new buildings, renovating it, hiring some new staff and bringing them together," Kay said. "And they ran a few physics experiments, re-ran experiments they'd actually run in the '80s."

"Fortunately, from my point of view," he added, "Operation Iraqi Freedom intervened and we don't know how or how fast that would have gone ahead. ... Given their history, it was certainly an emerging program that I would not have looked forward to their continuing to pursue."

Just to give you an idea of where this kind of thing can lead in the future, see the current Iran situation. This is from the National Review:

The mullahs have torn off their conciliatory mask in order to bare their fangs to us, the Europeans, and the Iranian people. If we had an Iran strategy worthy of the name, our confused leaders would have pointed out the remarkable interview with the chief nuclear affairs negotiator, Hossein Musavian. It was broadcast on Iranian television August 4th, and made it quite clear that the Iranians deliberately tricked the Europeans into giving the mullahs an extra year to complete a vital part of their nuclear program in Isfahan.

"Thanks to the negotiations with Europe," he bragged, "we gained another year, in which we completed...Isfahan." This was quite a coup, at least in Musavian's humble opinion: "We suspended (the enrichment program) in Isfahan in October 2004, although we were required to do so in October 2003...Today we are in a position of power: (the program) in Isfahan is complete and UF4 and UF6 gases are being produced. We have a stockpile of products, and...we have managed to convert 36 tons of yellow cake into gas and store it..."

Buying time by prolonging negotiations. Sound familiar? Saddam pulled a similar trick for 12 years.

Scientists Say Hurricanes Are Natural

Some people are trying to blame Hurricane Katrina on Global Warming or Bush's failure to sign the Kyoto Protocol. Obviously, these notions are foolish. From the New York Times:

Because hurricanes form over warm ocean water, it is easy to assume that the recent rise in their number and ferocity is because of global warming.

But that is not the case, scientists say. Instead, the severity of hurricane seasons changes with cycles of temperatures of several decades in the Atlantic Ocean. The recent onslaught "is very much natural," said William M. Gray, a professor of atmospheric science at Colorado State University who issues forecasts for the hurricane season.

From 1970 to 1994, the Atlantic was relatively quiet, with no more than three major hurricanes in any year and none at all in three of those years. Cooler water in the North Atlantic strengthened wind shear, which tends to tear storms apart before they turn into hurricanes.

In 1995, hurricane patterns reverted to the active mode of the 1950's and 60's. From 1995 to 2003, 32 major hurricanes, with sustained winds of 111 miles per hour or greater, stormed across the Atlantic. It was chance, Dr. Gray said, that only three of them struck the United States at full strength.

Historically, the rate has been 1 in 3.

Then last year, three major hurricanes, half of the six that formed during the season, hit the United States. A fourth, Frances, weakened before striking Florida.

"We were very lucky in that eight-year period, and the luck just ran out," Dr. Gray said.

Global warming may eventually intensify hurricanes somewhat, though different climate models disagree.

In an article this month in the journal Nature, Kerry A. Emanuel, a hurricane expert at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, wrote that global warming might have already had some effect. The total power dissipated by tropical cyclones in the North Atlantic and North Pacific increased 70 to 80 percent in the last 30 years, he wrote.

But even that seemingly large jump is not what has been pushing the hurricanes of the last two years, Dr. Emanuel said, adding, "What we see in the Atlantic is mostly the natural swing."

Funny Town Name

An Austrian village called Fucking will not change its name despite sniggering Brits making off with its roadsigns.

Mayor Siegfried Hauppl has asked visitors to lay off the signs which began to attract outside attention after British and US soldiers passing through in 1945 illuminated the locals as to the English meaning of Fucking, Ananova reports.

Hauppl explained: "We had a vote last year on whether to rename the town, but decided to keep it as it is. After all, Fucking has existed for 800 years, probably when a Mr Fuck or the Fuck family moved into the area. The 'ing' was added as a word for settlement."

We reckon that Fucking has been around a lot longer than 800 years, otherwise there wouldn't have been any Fucks to lend their name to the village in the first place, would there?

Be that as it may, the disappointing news is that the residents of Fucking are - according to Franz Duernsteiner, an expert on preposterous Austrian village names - very "conservative" people. He said: "Most of them can speak English, and when someone asks them where they come from they are a little ashamed to say it."

That's fair enough, and certainly something the residents of Milton Keynes can sympathise with.

WMD

The media is fond of reminding us that no Weapons of Mass Destruction were ever found in Iraq. This has been the clarion call of the Democrats for a couple of years now. However, did you know that WMD were found in Iraq? Not just a couple...but lots of them. A mother who lost her son in Iraq was interviewed on Fox News had this to say: "I have seen photos of entire fighter jets buried in the sand. I have seen pictures of entire caches of weapons that just my son's unit would uncover." I wonder why we never hear much about that one? Here's also a nice little list of what was found:

-500 tons...that's right...TONS...make that 1million pounds of yellow cake uranium. It was found at Saddam's nuclear weapons facility (yup...he had one of those too.)

-1.8 tons of partially enriched uranium found at the same place. You know, the stuff you need to make nukes.

-Hidden centrifuge parts and blueprints.

-Two dozen artillery shells loaded with Sarin and mustard gas.

Sounds like WMD to me! You may want to print this off and impress your friends with your knowledge.

Protesting DeLay

The Cindy Sheehan protest is clearly a protest against Conservatism, not against war. Sheehan is now heading 5.5 hours from Crawford to protest Republican Congressman Tom DeLay. I find it to be interesting that she is just protesting against Republicans. 2008 Democratic frontrunner, Hillary Clinton, has been a strong supporter of the war throughout. Not only does she want to continue the war, she wants to increase troop strength in Iraq. Isn't it funny how Sheehan has failed to call her a killer or demanded that she be impeached? Clearly, this is an anti-Conservative movement not an anti-war movement. Read more here.

Joan Baez

I thought Joan Baez was dead, but apparently she's alive and well and making foolish comments down in Crawford. When talking about the Sheehan protest she says:

"It's exactly like the march in Selma. The Selma paper didn't carry it. They just pretended that it didn't happen. There was just this great wall of denial.]."

Yeah, its exactly like that, except instead of denial, there is massive media coverage. And, instead of protesting to end racial inequality, the folks in Crawford are protesting to bring home our soldiers which would probably lead to chaos, civil war, and thousands of dead Iraqis.

On that note, the Democrats are supposed to be the great humanitarians. Why then, do they want us out of Iraq? If we leave, the violence will escalate and there will be a massive civil war. Thousands, maybe millions, will die. There will be starvation. Why? Because we lost a mere 1,800 lives and had to pull out. Don't you people see that what we are trying to do in Iraq is worth the sacrafice we are making?!? Do you humanitarians care at all about the wellfare of Iraqi civilians?

Cindy's Still Crazy

Here is part of an interview of Cindy Sheehan:

KNOLLER: You know that the president says Iraq is the central front in the war on terrorism, don't you believe that?

SHEEHAN: No, because it's not true. You know Iraq was no threat to the United States of America until we invaded. I mean they're not even a threat to the United States of America. Iraq was not involved in 9-11, Iraq was not a terrorist state.

But now that we have decimated the country, the borders are open, freedom fighters from other countries are going in, and [U.S. troops] have created more terrorism by going to an Islamic country, devastating the country and killing innocent people in that country. The terrorism is growing and people who never thought of being car bombers or suicide bombers are now doing it because they want the United States of America out of their country.

WHAT! First she says that "Iraq was not a terrorist state". That's just crazy. Over the last fifteen years, Iraq has invaded Kuwait and Iran, and dropped chemical weapons on the Kurds. In addition, Saddam was paying the families of Palestinian suicide bombers in order to encourage more terrorist acts. To say that Iraq was not a terrorist state is to either be stupid or uninformed, and probably both.

Now, to call the terrorists killing allied soldiers in Iraq "freedom fighters" is even more crazy. Who's freedom are they fighting for? Certainly not Iraqi freedom, as most of these people are from neighboring countries. Additionally, they DO NOT want freedom in the Middle East. They have plainly stated that themselves. They want extremist Islamic theocracies, not democracies. To call the terrorists that killed her son "freedom fighters" is bordering on insane.

Why the media gives this nutjob so much publicity is beyond me. The overwhelming majority of families that have lost loved ones in this battle would disagree with what she says. For some reason, their voices are not as important as hers to the mainstream media.

Sean Penn is Truly a Fool

Sean Penn is in Iran helping to spread his anti-American ideology. He is publishing a journal of his travels in a SF newspaper. I'll touch on a few of his most idiotic statements here.

First, Penn loosely implies that the U.S. is wrong by not wanting Iran to get nuclear capabilities. Iran is "a nation of nuclear power", Penn says. I don't really know what "a nation of nuclear power" is, and Penn doesn't really explain his statement. I do know that there seems to be little reason for a country with one of the world's largest oil reserves to invest millions of dollars in building nuclear power plants when many of its people live in poverty. Any thinking person can see that Iran's nuclear program is a blatant attempt to build nuclear weapons.

Penn goes on to visit a mosque where extremists are screaming anti-American hate speech. Penn naively says, "And many, even among the worshipers at the Friday prayer service, do not subscribe to a literal interpretation of the call for 'Death to Israel' and 'Death to America.' However, in the mantra of chant, comes an adulated sense of horror."

ARE YOU F-ING KIDDING ME! Iranians are yelling "Death to America" and Penn thinks they're joking. I don't think I've ever read a quote that made me so angry and yet laugh so hard. Were the 9-11 hijackers joking? Perhaps those that bombed trains in Madrid and London didn't "literally" want to destroy Western Civilization. Maybe the Iranian insurgents pouring over the Iraq border and killing our American service people are some of the practical jokers that Penn has befriended.

Penn has absolutely no concept of what we are facing here. He thinks he can learn about a country like Iran by reading their state-run newspapers and meeting with government officials. The government of Iran is actively trying to subvert our efforts in Iraq. They are our enemy. Sean Penn can't see that even as hundreds of Iranians shout "Death to America" right in front of him.

Soldier Sets Lauer Straight

I've been saying for a long time now, that it is the media that is fueling the national since of negativity in Iraq. If ANY negative thing in our society or world was the lead story of every media outlet every day and night, the people would believe about that thing like they do about Iraq now. We are winning in Iraq and we are going to finish what we started. A U.S. soldier made that point brilliantly:

Here is a New York Times article that proves that Bill Clinton's recent statements (see previous post) were totally false. Look, I don't think anyone should shoulder the full blame for 9-11 other than the terrorists. Clinton and Bush both should have done more, but hindsight is 20/20. I think we should focus on preventing another attack rather then blaming past administrations. Clinton, however, opens himself up to attack when he erroneously claims that he would have done something if he new Bin Laden attacked the Cole or might attack the U.S. He did know and he did nothing. Plain and simple.

Bill Clinton has made statements saying that he would have attacked Bin Laden in Afganistan if there had been proof that Bin Laden attacked the USS Cole:

"I desperately wish that I had been president when the FBI and CIA finally confirmed, officially, that bin Laden was responsible for the attack on the U.S.S. Cole," Clinton tells New York magazine this week. "Then we could have launched an attack on Afghanistan early."

Everyone and their mother knew that Bin Laden was responsible for this, and other attacks, during the Clinton administrationn. Bin Laden openly told the world that he was responsible. Bill Clinton is lying here, plain and simple. Remember, he was offered Bin Laden on a silver platter, and refused to take custody of him for fear of political ramifications.

Cindy Sheehan, the protesting Mom, is incredibly misguided. Here is what she had to say yesterday: "You get America out of Iraq and Israel out of Palestine and you'll stop the terrorism." If these two things would actually stop terrorism, I would be all for it but, of course, they won't. The terrorists seek to end Western civilization. They think that we are evil and should all die. Nothing short of this will stop the violence. Ms. Sheehan should spend less time in a tent in Crawford, and more time in the library grasping a true understanding of the nature of our struggle. I feel bad about the fact that she lost her son, but this does not give her free reign to make ridiculous statements without a backlash.

Admittedly, I listen to Air America radio occasionally. It is actually quite funny. These crazies, especially Janeane Garofalo, rant and rave while using few facts and offering no solutions. I've probably listened to 20 hours of this crap over the course of the last year and I have yet to hear a single host offer ONE solution for our problems. All they do is yell about how Bush is a crook.

Well, now who's the crook? According all reports, it is Air America's original board chair, Evan Cohen. These idiots borrowed $875,000 from a group designed to help poor children and Alzheimer's patients and have failed to pay it back. It must be hard to sit on such a high horse while getting paid by money that should be going to help those in need.

Hiroshima and Nagasaki

Over the last week or so, I have become quite tired of hearing people talk about the horrors wrought by the atomic bomb in Horishima and Nagasaki. The underlying implication seems to be that America made a mistake or that we killed thousands of Japanese needlessly. These people have no historical perspective.

First, only 100,000 Japanese were killed during the bombing. I say only 100,000 because in the battle of Okinawa which concluded a month before the bombs were dropped, 200,000 Japanese and 50,000 Americans lost their lives. And that's one battle! In comparison to the bloodletting that the war in the Pacific had already seen (which includes over 10 million Chinese civilians murdered by Japanese forces), 100,000 lives to end the war completely was a cheap cost to pay.

Second, Allied estimates as to the cost to Allied and Japanese lives through a land invasion are in the millions. The Japanese were a proud people who were willing to fight to the death. The A-Bomb was the only solution because it allowed the Japanese to bow out gracefully in front of this overwhelming display of force.

Those that seek to disparage the brave pilots that dropped those bombs 60 years ago or the military leaders that ordered them dropped are either uninformed or are attempting to intentionally hurt the reputation of the United States. I would like to hear ONE television or radio story giving the actual facts on this story.

Here is what Oliver Stone had to say about 9/11 the other day:

This is exactly the liberal mentality I was applauding Blair for confronting. There was not an "over-reaction" after 9-11. If anything, there was an under-reaction. The American people, and the people of the world, have gone back into their merry slumber. The terrorists, on the other hand, are still working to kill your family.

Stone is working on a movie about 9-11. Mark my words, this will be the biggest distortment of the truth since Michael Moore's last film. What's worse is the fact that a lot of people will see his insane ramblings and hold them up as facts. Oliver Stone is not a rational person. I have met him twice, and both times he seemed incredibly intoxicated and talked like a crazy person. It makes me sick that a major Hollywood studio has given him money to do this. In fact, the Democratic party here in the United States could take a few lessons from Blair. Just take a look at some of his most recent statements yesterday about the London train and bus bombings:

"Let us expose the obscenity of these people saying it is concern for Iraq that drives them to terrorism. If it is concern for Iraq, then why are they driving a car bomb into the middle of a group of children and killing them?"

Exactly. But you see, to the left in this country and elsewhere, all terrorism everywhere is the result of our invasion of Iraq. Why...if we had just not set foot in Baghdad 2 1/2 years ago, none of this would be happening! Not even 9/11! Never mind that Islamic terror attacks have been going on against the United States for decades, with us doing little or nothing about it. Not this time.

We're always told by the Democrats that our standing in the world has suffered at the hands of the Bush administration, that the goodwill we received after 9/11 is now gone. Doesn't look that way from another of Tony Blair's statements, also from yesterday:

"Whatever excuse or justification these people use, I do not believe we should give one inch to them, not in this country and the way we live our lives here; not in Iraq; not in Afghanistan; not in our support for two states, Israel and Palestine; not in our support for the alliances we choose, including with America."

He also made a statement that could apply to quite a few people in this country: "September 11 for me was a wake up call. Do you know what I think the problem is? That a lot of the world woke up for a short time and then turned over and went back to sleep again." People have already forgotten about 9/11 and it will probably take another attack for the public to wake up.

Perhaps Europe is finally getting the message that the appeasement route doesn't work. Now if only we could convince the left in this country.

Teresa Kerry is now saying that the election was hacked. She says it is "very easy" to hack into the machines. Let's forget for a second that she presents absolutely no evidendence to support her statement. The facts are these: its impossible to hack into the electronic voting machines. In order for someone to "hack" into something, it has to be connected to the internet or some central server. These machines were completely free standing. They are not connected to any network at all. It would be like saying someone "hacked" into a voting booth from a remote location. Its physically impossilbe.

Vice President Jusuf Kalla announced that all foreign troops must leave by the end of March. The insults continued, as he said: "Three months are enough. The sooner, the better. In the future, there will be no need for the foreign military presence." Oh really?

We'll have to remember that the next time Indonesia needs something, or another natural disaster occurs there. Already, in response, the United States has scaled back plans to base Marines in that country and pulled out the aircraft carrier U.S.S. Abraham Lincoln that was off its shores. Indonesia is seeking debt relief...perhaps we should think twice before helping them any further?

Thanks for nothing, Indonesia. We'll have to remember this one. And we should also remember that no good deed goes unpunished.

Also ... remember that Indonesia is the world's largest Muslim nation. Think about it.

Government At Its Worst

Here is a terrible story of a Georgia widow who is potentially having her land stolen from her by the state. These politicians should be tossed out of office immediately. From Boortz:

Our story involves Eleanor Brazell. Eleanor is a widow. She owns 323 acres in Hall County. She has a contract to sell 311 of those acres to a developer who has plans for a "Sun City" type retirement community. Eleanor will keep the 12 acres on which she lives in a house built by her now-dead husband.

Our story also involves a Hall County Commissioner named Deborah Lynn. Commissioner Lynn wants Eleanor Brazell's property, all 323 acres of it. Lynn wants the property for a community center, a park and various other little goodies. It's interesting that Lynn says that the county needs the property for a park. A county-appointed citizen's park board says that they don't want that property for a park.

Well .. right now the Hall County commission is fighting like hell to get the condemnation of Brazell's property as fast as possible. They're in a hurry because two of the commissioners who are in favor of the seizure will be leaving office at the end of the month.

Now ... here's the real kicker. The contract with the private developer calls for a price of $8.4 million, and that contract allows Eleanor Brazell to keep the 12 acres on which her home sits. Hall County is only going to pay Eleanor Brazell $6.4 million ... PLUS, they're going to take the 12 acres for her home ... and all of this for a park the citizen's parks board says it doesn't want!

This is theft. No other description. This woman has a contract to sell 311 acres of her land, keep her home, and pocket $8.4 million. Along come the politicians who are telling her "No .. you're not going to keep your home, and you're not going to sell 311 acres for $8.4 million. We're going to force you off your property and out of your home and we're only going to give you $6.4 million. And you have no choice in the matter because we, not you, are allowed to use force to accomplish our goals."

Now I know what a lot of you are saying. Big deal. The woman still walks away with six million bucks. How in the hell do you expect me to feel sorry for a woman with six million dollars? Fine. Try getting beyond your envy here. Hall County is seizing this woman's land for 25% less than its market value. Maybe next week the county will condemn some middle class homeowner's property. The homeowner might have a contract to sell his home for $160,000. Along comes the county with its condemnation privileges and pays the homeowner $120,000 instead. A nifty little 25% discount! Is that OK with you?

I've heard many conservatives complaining about the threat of government intervention against Major League Baseball due to the steroid controversy. Critics ponder, "What's next?" If the government butts its nose in baseball, why not football or movies? I, too, do not think its an appropriate function of government to regulate a sport. There is one major difference about baseball, however. Baseball is a government sanctioned monopoly. As such, it is illegal for you or I to start up a rival baseball league. This is not the case with Football or Basketball, both of which have seen rival leagues come and go. I think, instead of regulating the steroid issue, the government should step in and take away monopoly status from MLB. This will put the fear of God into the league, and maybe they will clean up there act. If not, things will be governed by the free market and other citizens will be free to set up a league for steroid free athletes.

This is just a hunch, and I hope I'm wrong, but Kerry seems to have the momentum going into election day. I think voter turnout will be extremely high among idiots, giving Kerry a good edge of 3% to 4% in the popular vote. I think America will rue the day we gave John Kerry power.
